First produced by Santa Fe Desert Chorale in 2016, Santa Fe Sings! draws participants ranging in age from eighth graders to octogenarians from across Northern New Mexico, singing together under the direction of Joshua Habermann. In order to keep our communities and artists safe, yet still engaged, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Santa Fe Sings! went virtual in February 2021.
Participants engaged in weekly Zoom rehearsals, led by Desert Chorale Artists with Steinway artist Jacquelyn Helin assisting on piano, learning three selections, including "TaReKiTa" by 2021 Composer in Residence Reena Esmail. The month-long workshop culminated in a sing-along Zoom session. Artistic Director Joshua Habermann led the sing-along, with the aid of the videos in this collection, offering insights on the repertoire selected and how the pieces related to the Desert Chorale’s 2021 Summer Festival programming.
