As Europe emerged from World War I, Paris established itself as a nexus for writers, artists, and musicians. In Roaring 20s, we hear some of the finest choral works to come out of this rich cultural landscape by Lili Boulanger, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc, and Frank Martin. As a foil to those works, we hear selections from the American Songbook. Songs and arrangements by Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern offer a glimpse into an era that saw the United States carve out its place as an exporter, rather than an importer, of culture. Los Alamos native Nathan Salazar joins the Desert Chorale as collaborative pianist (sponsored by Richard and Chris Frenk). Filmed by W 40th Media.
